ABSTRACT There are many advantages of electronic patient records. In our country, there are hospital information systems, especially in large health centres. However, medical records are not satisfactory in these systems. Cancer patients have a special importance among all the patients treated in hospitals. We decided to design a module for our Hospital Information System. This module is a prototype for storing detailed medical data and it will support the healthcare of cancer patients. First, we determined the parameters which would be stored. Paper based records in our hospital, and the books published by WHO were investigated for this purpose. A commission was established and discussions were made on each parameter. Then, a database structure was designed with these parameters. A number of coding systems were selected for several variables. Finally, a user interface was designed using a fourth generation programming language. In this study, a software module for medical records of cancer patients who take healthcare in Akdeniz University Hospital was developed and this module was integrated to Akdeniz University Hospital Information System. This module will also support Hospital Cancer Registry Center. Key Words: Database, Hospital Information System, Oncology, Cancer, Cancer registry
