Investigation of disease perception and emotion in adults with a cancer diagnosis

In this study, the relationship between illness perception and anxiety and depression was investigated. The sample of the study consists of individuals who are 18 years of age and older diagnosed with cancer. The Perception of Disease Scale, Beck Anxiety and Beck Depression Scale were administered to the participants in the form of a questionnaire via internet and face-to-face interviews. In this study, in which the relationship between illness perception and anxiety and depression was examined, the data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 program. Statistical studies and interpretations; It was evaluated according to the significance level of p <.05. Frequency analysis was applied to determine the distribution of the participants according to their various demographic characteristics and the information they provided. Independent sample t test was conducted to test the differentiation between groups. Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between the variables of the study. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the mean immune scores of female participants got higher scores than male participants, and there was no difference in depression and anxiety according to gender; It was found that there were statistically significant positive correlations between depression and acute / chronic duration, outcomes, emotional representations, and disease symptoms. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between depression and personal control. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between anxiety and acute / chronic duration, emotional representations, disease symptoms, and age. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between anxiety and personal control. In line with the findings obtained from the research, the results were discussed and suggestions were made.
