The validity and reliability of attitude towards evidencebased nursing questionnaire for Turkish sample

THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF ATTITUDE TOWARDS EVIDENCEBASEDNURSING QUESTIONNAIRE FOR TURKISH SAMPLEYasemin AYHANDokuz Eylül University Nursing FacultyNursing Management Departmentya.ayhan@gmail.comPurpose: To determine the validity and reliability of Attitude Towards Evidence-BasedNursing Questionnaire.Method: For validity and reliability analysis of Attitude Towards Evidence-Based NursingQuestionnaire a community, university and private hospital have taken to the sample. Thesampling consisted of 342 nurses who are directly responsible of patient care. The data werecollected May-September 2012. The scale was reviewed for the content validity by fivenursing faculty members who were experts on nursing. In evaluation of the datafrequency/percentage, paired simple and student t test, correlation, Cronbach Alpha,exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used.Findings: The Cronbach Alpha correlation coefficient was found to be .90 for the wholescale, .86, .69 and .90 for the subscales. The correlation coefficient of the score of each itemand the scale score was r = .57 - .76 (p < .001). To test stability of the questionnaire test ?retest analysis was used. There were no significant differences in total and subscale scoresbetween test and retest. The results of the exploratory factor analysis explained 58.65% of thetotal variance. Confirmatory factor analysis results are coherent with the originalquestionnaire?s and confirmed of the three factor model, the scale is associated to items andsubscales and each item and subscale certifies its own factor adequately.Conclusion: The results show that Attitude Towards Evidence-Based Nursing Questionnairehas similar construction to the original scale and high values of the validitiy and reliabilityanalysis and can be used successfully in Turkish studies.Key words: Evidence-based nursing, attitude scale, validity, reliability.
