Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, "Ottoman period metal kitchen utensils in the museums of the Cappadocia region" is analyzed. The concept of "kitchen" includes a cultural structure that includes elements such as preparation, cooking, consumption, storage and service of food and beverages. This concept also refers to collective meal ceremonies and the beliefs and practices associated with these ceremonies. Ottoman food culture is a structure that forms the basis of Turkish cuisine and occupies an important place in table organization. The diversity and aesthetic richness of the tools and utensils used in this period is remarkable. Items specific to Ottoman cuisine are usually handcrafted and are works of art. These special pieces were used for the preparation, presentation and service of meals. Kitchen utensils were usually made of metal and enriched with various decorations. These decorations were made with different techniques and motifs, reflecting the characteristics of the period and place of production. Decorations in handicraft works have added an aesthetic value and provided a beautiful appearance by enriching them with different techniques, motifs and compositions. Handcrafted ornaments transform from a functional tool into an artistic work. Various motifs such as floral and geometric decorations, animal and human figures were used and reflected the characteristics of Ottoman art. They were also used in the kitchen utensils of palaces and rich families as an indicator of social status and wealth.
