An experimental archaeological study on Cappadocia obsidians

Human societies have left traces on the regions they passed through during their emergence and spread throughout the world. Not a day goes by without new discoveries being made about these traces. Anatolia appears as an important region among the ancient lands where humans spread and left traces on the earth. Anatolia's flora and fauna provide suitable conditions for human life, shelter and nutrition. Apart from its food, climate and shelter conditions, another resource of Anatolia that attracted the attention of prehistoric people was its ores. While prehistoric man was designing and making tools that would make his life easier, he discovered that obsidian, also called volcano glass, was very useful as a cutter and wanted to make his daily life easier with it. Obsidian resources of Anatolia are extremely suitable for making these cutting tools. An experimental study was conducted on the use of Cappadocia obsidians, an important group among Anatolian obsidians, in prehistoric periods. The reasons for the spread of Cappadocia obsidians and some difficulties and conveniences encountered in their use have been tried to be determined. Traces of use and wear were examined. The results were compared.
