Abstract (EN)

In the 1990s, the political, social and economic structures that were created within a framework of new borders and that were based on sensitive balances were attempted to be maintained in Yugoslavia. This occurred while Yugoslavia disintegrated after the civil war that resulted in the death of a large number of civilians and the displacement of many others. Even though the problems in the region seem to have disappeared by the 2000s due to the end of the conflicts, both the heterogeneous population structure and fragile political order of the region still cause problems. This study aims to explain that the nationalist movements in Yugoslavia during the process of disintegration emerged by increasing the economic inequalities of neoliberal policies that were implemented as a result of the crises regarding capitalist relations. The study will discuss the deterioration of the Southern Slavic unity which had been established in the internal conditions of Yugoslavia due to capital movements of the central capitalist countries. In addition, the study will utilize both global and regional economic data. The conditions of the emergence of Yugoslavia, the change of these conditions and the effect of the new conditions on the dissolution of Yugoslavia will be examined in a dialectical process, considering the transformation and/or changes in the political, economic and public functions of the state within the framework of the crisis of capitalism and neoliberal policies.
