Social studies education with its inclusive education approach: An action research

It can be said that with the increasing need for inclusive education on a global scale, studies on inclusive education have gained momentum in the international literature. However, it is seen that the studies carried out deal with inclusive education in a very limited way. As a matter of fact, the studies carried out mostly focus on students with disabilities and foreign students. On the other hand, it is seen that the studies conducted focus on identifying the current state of inclusive education and describing the perceptions, attitudes, thoughts, and experiences of various stakeholders of education. In addition, it can be stated that such studies have reached a certain saturation in the literature. In this context, the research aims to design, implement and evaluate social studies teaching with an inclusive education approach that supports academic success and value development at the secondary school level. In line with this purpose, the effect of social studies teaching, which is carried out with an inclusive education approach, on the academic success and value acquisition of all students was examined. In the study, the effect of the inclusive education approach on communication between students and classroom climate was also examined. In the research, the data were obtained from various participants in three stages before, during, and after the application. The data collection tools of the research consist of different tools such as achievement tests, video recordings, observations, interviews, diaries, product files, and documents. Data from the research was analyzed using descriptive and thematic content analysis. The results of the research reveal that inclusive education can be applied successfully and that the acquirements of the students in the social studies lessons carried out with the inclusive education approach are worth the effort given in the process.
