Abstract (EN)

Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor used to treat conditions such as hypertension, myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure. It was the first oral angiotensin-converting enzyme found for the treatment of hypertension. To facilitate patient use and provide rapid onset of action, characterization studies were conducted during development of an oral film formulation containing 5 mg captopril. Collicoate IR® and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) were used as polymers to form oral films under appropriate conditions. Polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400) and the surfactant Tween 80® were added as plasticizers. Validation studies for the active ingredient captopril were performed along with characterization studies of the formed films.
