The effects of individial sports and team sports which performed with olympic sports branches in Military Academy to the military students leadership skills

The research covers all cadets who are attending Military Academies nationwide during the 2006-2007 education and training year. The sample of the study is chosen from Military Academy in Ankara. The number of the sample students is 207 cadets. The research is conducted using three types of data collection tool. The first one is ?The Information Form? developed with the aim of modifying leadership styles and characteristic differences of the cadets. The second information tool is the ?Leadership Orientation Questionnaire? that is used to define leadership features of the cadets. The data is evaluated with average, standard deviation asset, the frequency distribution, median and mode assets. In order to evaluate the research data; the z test, oneway Anova and Correlation Analysis are used. As the specific finding of the research; the cadets, who are involved in team sports display much more charismatic leadership qualities than the cadets who choose to perform individial sport branches. With this distinctive finding it is also noted that there is not a meaningful distinction with the other leadership qualities like (human leadership structural leadership and conversional leadership). According to the conclusions of the research; although there is not a meaningful statistical finding; it is noted that; the cadets who are performing individual sports display structural leadership more often than the cadets involved in team sports. This finding makes us think about another anology. The cadets involved in team sports may gain a collective effort by team work and it leads them to success; this reality represents them how human factor is important in reaching a total gain. These cadets are much more concious about the positive effects of the human factor than individual sports doers. Nonetheless; when human factor is considered in success the individual sports doers are not as sensitive as the team sport doers, they only focus on the conclusions and the actions which are performed for reaching a specific aim.
