Abstract (EN)
Judo is a martial art where not only physical abilities but also mental endurance and psychological preparation are important. In this context, the quality of the coach- athlete relationship can significantly affect the performance of athletes. The aim of the study is to reveal the effect of the coach-athlete relationship on athletes' perceptions of success and failure. In this study, the direct effects of coaches' communication skills, use of authority and empathic approaches on athletes' psychological endurance and determination to achieve success were evaluated. At the same time, this study aims to contribute to the sports management literature by considering the effects of the interaction between athletes and coaches on general team dynamics and individual performance. Since the relationship and difference between multiple variables are examined within the scope of the study method, the relational screening method was used. The universe of the study consists of black belt and above judo athletes in the judo branch in sports halls affiliated to the Provincial Directorates of Youth and Sports located in different regions of Turkey. The sample of the study consists of a total of 531 judo athletes, 204 female and 327 male, with black belt and above in the branch of judo in the gyms affiliated to the Provincial Directorates of Youth and Sports in the provincial centers of 16 cities that are selected from different regions. Two scales were used while collecting the data. The scales in question are; Coach Behavior Assessment Scale for Athletes (CAAS) and Sports Success Responsibility Scale (SSSS). In the study, the data was collected via Google Forms on online platforms. In the case of Keywords: Black Belt, Judo, Athlete, Success, Coach detection of normality assumption test of the data set in the study, in order to test the differentiation between the self-efficacy of judo athletes and their coaches and gender, educational status, level of coaches and nationality status of coaching, Independent Samples T-Test, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA); Again, Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationship between the self-efficacy of judo coaches and their ages and years of practice. The research results show that a strong coach-athlete relationship plays a critical role in athletes' success. The results show that a positive and supportive coaching approach increases the mental strength and motivation of athletes, which increases their success rates. In addition, the support that athletes receive from their coaches in case of failure has been determined as a determining factor in overcoming these situations. These findings emphasize the importance of developing effective communication and leadership strategies for coaches, thus allowing athletes to maximize their success both individually and as a team.
