The effect of road safety systems on traffic accidents: Example of Zonguldak – Bolu provincial border

The developments in the world and the rapid increase in technology have forced humanity to more comfortable, reliable and faster transportation opportunities. As a result of such formations, all organizations related to the construction of other transportation networks, including highways, should prioritize the importance of security systems in the transportation network and these systems should be given great importance with sensitivity. Security Systems in Transportation, one of the most important subjects of Transportation Engineering, has been among the most sought-after solutions. The most preferred mode of transportation among the alternatives in our country is the highway, and due to this feature, the increase in the number of population, the developments in technology and the increase in the number of vehicles directly cause an increase in traffic density. The increase in density also causes negativities in traffic. Therefore, the subject, which is human safety and for this purpose, should be emphasized in order to ensure life safety is the subject of 'The Effect of Highway Safety Systems on Traffic Accidents' and this needs to be investigated and resolved. In this thesis, it is aimed to recognize, distinguish and apply the active and passive safety systems, which are among the road safety systems, to the right sections. Active and passive safety systems are uneconomical systems. Therefore, in the implementation of these systems, it is necessary to obtain efficient results with the work done by the relevant people. Criteria for the use of these non-economic systems have been explained and with these criteria, the points that require importance in the collection and installation of tools and equipment and the regular adaptation of these materials to the system are aimed. In addition, with the developing information and technology, applications in Intelligent Transportation Systems and lighting on highways have been researched and security system applications have been researched. In general, highway safety systems have been examined on the roads between Kastamonu and Cide within the borders of Kastamonu province, the areas where traffic accidents are experienced intensely are determined, the effects of these systems on the needed points are investigated, and it is planned to prevent traffic accidents by presenting solutions
