Effects of different planting densities on yield and yield components in buckwheat

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of different planting densities on the yield and yield components of buckwheat varieties under the ecological conditions of Tokat-Kazova.The study was carried out in the production period of 2023 with three replicates according to the Split Plots in Random Blocks design. Buckwheat varieties (Aktaş and Güneş) were used in the main plots and sowing densities (100, 150, 200, 250, 250, 300, 350 and 400 plants/m2) were provided in the sub-plots. In the study, data on emergence and flowering time (days), plant height (cm), number of side branches (piece/plant), number of flower clusters (piece/plant), thousand seed weight (g), hectoliter weight (kg/hl), seed yield per decare (kg/ha), biological yield (kg/ha), harvest index (%) and crude protein content (%) were taken. According to the obtained findings, the emergence duration ranged from 8 to 9 days, the flowering duration ranged from 36 to 37 days, plant height ranged from 83.30 to 92.17 cm, the number of lateral branches ranged from 2.47 to 3.33 per plant, the number of flower clusters ranged from 9.59 to 14.10 per plant, thousand-seed weight ranged from 26.04 to 27.29 g, hectoliter weight ranged from 60.30 to 63.97 kg/hl, seed yield per decare ranged from 179.97 to 251.12 kg/da, biological yield ranged from 916.67 to 1514.33 kg/da, harvest index ranged from 16.28% to 22.40%, and the protein content ranged from 11.95% to 12.57%. As a result of the study; in terms of seed yield per decare, sowing frequencies of 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 seeds/m2 in Aktaş variety and sowing frequencies of 250, 300 and 400 seeds/m2 in Güneş variety were statistically in the same group. Since the seed yield per decare continues to increase as the planting frequency increases in the Aktaş variety, 400 seeds/m2 is recommended, and for the Güneş variety, 250 seeds/m2 is recommended, taking into account seed savings.
