Effect of immune response of garland thorn (Paliurus spina christi) on carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Abstract (EN)
The present study was conducted to determine the changes on immune responses and growth performance of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) treated with different doses of Paliurus spina christi (1%, 2% and 3%). With this aim, fish were fed with Paliurus spina christi aqueus methanolic extract during 45 days twice a day. Every fifteenth day of the study, respiratory burst activity, lysozyme and myeloperoxidase activity were determined. Respiratory burst activiry was increased significantly on experimental groups compared to control (P<0.05). Lysozyme activity was significantly decreased on all experimental groups except 30 days of the satudy compared to control. Myeloperoxidase activity was significantly increased on all experimental groups especially on 2 % group (P<0.05). There is no differences observed on groups' growth performance compared to control (P>0.05). According to these results, Paliurus spina christi could be used as an immunostimulant for fish for 30 days long.
