Abstract (EN)

Prognostic Significance of EGFR gene mutation and Her2 Expression in Metastatic Breast Carcinomas of the Liver Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between EGFR gene mutation, Her2 expression, hormon receptor status and clinicopathological parameters in liver metastases of breast cancers. Materials and Method: This study included 41 patients diagnosed as breast carcinoma liver metastasis, based upon morphological and immunohistochemical findings, in our pathology laboratory from 2011 to 2018. EGFR gene mutation was analysed by PCR in these cases. Results: EGFR gene mutation analysis was performed by PCR and no mutation was detected. Primary breast tumor HER2 status and ER status were reported in 23 cases. HER2 transformation was present in 9 cases (39,1%) but this was not statistically significant (p = 0,197). There were 2 positive cases (8,7%) and 3 equivocal cases (13%) in liver metastasis while the primary breast tumors were negative for HER2 for these cases. One positive case (4,3%) and 2 negative cases (8,7%) were detected for Her2 in liver metastasis while the primary breast tumor was equivocal. There was no negative case in liver metastasis while primary tumor was positive for HER2. ER transformation was present in 4 cases (17,4%) but it was not statistically significant (p = 1,000). Two (8,7%) of the ER negative cases of the primary tumors, became positive for ER in liver metastasis and 2 cases (8,7%) became negative for ER in the liver metastasis that had positive ER expression in the primary tumors. Primary breast tumor PR status was reported in 22 cases and it was statistically significant (p = 0,002). PR transformation was seen in 10 cases (45,5%). There were 10 (45,5%) cases with positive PR expression in the primary tumor that were negative in liver metastasis. There was no case that was negative in the primary tumor and became positive in liver metastasis for PR. Conclusion: EGFR gene mutation was not detected in any of the cases by PCR analysing. Statistically no significant results were obtained between clinicopathological parameters and EGFR mutation. It has been shown to be receptor transformation in some cases when ER, PR, HER2 expression of primary tumors are compared to metastatic ones. However, only PR conversion was statistically significant (p = 0,002). Key words: Breast carcinoma, EGFR, ER, PR, HER2, liver metastasis
