Ereğli town is a remakable area with regards the various intensive affectation between its natural and geographical area. Pontus Herakles is the oldest residantial area due to its situation in the town Ereğli and its near environment Alaca and Bababurnu which has a wonderful harbour that is closed to yıldız and poyraz winds. The town which is in the west Karadeniz area is connected to Zonguldak city. The natural territory of Ereğli is surrounded by the Black sea, Akçakoca mountains and Babadağlar and the twisted area between Kandilli, Zonguldak and Babadağ. The administritive territory of Ereğli is drawn by Kozlu, a town at Zonguldak, from east and southeast Devrek, from south Alaplı. In the north and west Ereğli there is Blacksea which constitutes a natural territory. The administrative structure of Ereğli consists of bucak and 102 hundred villages. Ereğli which was a small seau town in the 1960's since the foundadion of iron and steel factory has been in a process of becoming a bigger city with a higher population. New working areas has been established dua to its mining possibilities, the development of its industrial area. Because the farming possibilities are less than industrial possibilities the farming feel behind industry in Ereğli. There fore, farming is now a supplemenetary hobby of the settlers.
