Seasonal changes in serum testosterone, estradiol and cholesterol amounts of Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) inhabiting in Karakaya dam lake

Abstract (EN)

This study is carried out between the March 2008 and February 2009 so as to search seasonal changes of serum testosterone and cholesterol of 180 male individuals and estradiol and cholesterol of 180 female individuals belonging to Capoeta trutta population in Karakaya Dam Lake. Ages of C. trutta population is reported to be between II and XII and the reproduction period of this population is determined to be between may and june, however it is observed that some leave spawn and sperm also in July.The amount of testosterone which belongs to male individuals of C. trutta population is reported to be changeable between 20.20 ng/dl and 1423 ng/dl and the amount of cholesterol is found to be 112.62 mg/dl ? 937.91 mg/dl. Amount of estradiol is determined to be between 20.10 pg/ml ? 3855 pg/ml and the amount of cholesterol is between 83.67 mg/dl ? 984.71 mg/dl for the female population.The lowest amount of testosterone is recorded as 20.20 ng/dl for two individuals one of which belongs to 3rd age group in august and the other is belongs to 4th age group in september. The highest amount of testosterone is recorded as 1423 ng/dl for an individual which belongs to 6th age group in may. The lowest amount of cholesterol for male is found to be 112.62 mg/dl in november for an individual which belongs to 7th age group. The highest amount of cholesterol for male is determined to be 937.91 mg/dl in april for an individual which belongs to 5th age group.The lowest amount of estradiol is determined to be 20.10 pg/ml in february for an individual which belongs to 2nd age group. The highest amount of estradiol is determined to be 3855 pg/ml in may for an individual which belongs to 7th age group. The lowest amount of cholesterol for female is found to be 83.67 mg/dl in march for an individual which belongs to 4th age group. The highest amount of cholesterol for female is determined to be 984.71 mg/dl in april for an individual which belongs to 5th age group.In addition, a possitive weak correlation between the testosteron-cholesterol (r = 0.24), a possitive very weak correlation between the estradiol-cholesterol (r = 0.13), weak correlation between the testosteron-estrasiol (r = 0.34) haven been determined.
