Abstract (EN)

T.C. General Directorate of Highways (GDH) performs permanent, portable and special traffic counts within boundaries of 16 Regional Divisions at control points of the state and county highway routes. In these counting methods; counting equipments, counting periods and recorded vehicle data types are different.Automatic Vehicle Counts method is used for only counting vehicles. On the other hand Automatic Vehicle Classification Counts method is not only used for counting vehicles but also classifies vehicles with respect to the properties such as vehicle weight, axle type and axle distance.In this study, traffic count datas which is measured between 2003-2008 at 69 control points in 12th Regional Division containing the province of Erzurum, neighboring cities and counties are used. These traffic count datas are obtained by mobile Metrocount (MC) equipments with seasonal 7 / 24 hours Automatic Vehicle Classification Counts method.The files which are identified as defective or special count are excluded from the main database consisting 639 traffic data files and each remaining file is prepared for report format.Vehicle count data of 10 228 638 vehicles found in main database are combined and sorted in a text file. Direction of vehicles and vehicle classes are separated for each time period. such as annual, seasonal, monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, etc. by programs coded with Visual Basic.By considering the seasonal traffic change, annual average daily traffic values are calibrated and seasonal annual average daily traffic values are obtained. Traffic datas of control points are clustered with statistical analyze methods and traffic characterization is identified with developed approaches. Relations are developed between seasonal annual average daily traffic values, seasonal average daily traffic values and monthly average daily traffic values. Moreover, transformation coefficients are obtained between aforementioned traffic values.
