Abstract (EN)

In this study, a final driving simulator has been developed to determine the driver reaction time, the delay time of the system, the braking time, and the corresponding distances affecting the braking conditions in road vehicles. The developed driving simulator has a half-section automotive test platform made up of the front hood, driver, and passenger compartments of a real A-segment car (FIAT-126-BIS). Electronic accelerator and brake pedals, a steering wheel stand, a control panel, a driving screen, and a driver information screen are all features of the test platform where driving conditions for an automatic transmission vehicle are carried out. The seat belt and rearview mirrors (right and left) must be pre-controlled in the developed driving simulator algorithm before driving, and there is a control button that gives external driver conditioning to gauge the driver's reaction time. The driver information display relays information to the driver during the test, including vehicle speed, driver reaction time, distance traveled during reaction time, total braking time, and braking distance. In the final driving simulator developed, driving tests were carried out with a total of 70 drivers, 21 female and 49 male, of different age groups, at speeds between 90 and 255 km/h. The general and driving conditions of the driver were identified in the questionnaire research used prior to the testing, and their impacts on the driver's reaction time were identified. The results obtained showed that the driver's training level and driver reaction time were reduced, the driver's profession affected the driver reaction time, the driver reaction time increased with the driver's age and driving year experience, the reaction time was shortened with the increase in the daily vehicle usage time of the drivers, the married / child drivers had shorter driver reaction time than single drivers, the fatigue situation affected the driver reaction time and rested that drivers with the condition have shorter reaction times, that drivers who play sports have shorter driver reaction times, that drivers with chronic conditions and who use glasses have higher driver reaction times, that drivers who smoke have longer driver reaction times, that drivers who use seat belts while driving have shorter reaction times, but that drivers who use seat belts while driving have shorter reaction times, but that they have shorter reaction times, but that they have a mobile phone and/or CD player/TV while driving. It has been shown that drivers using communications/entertainment equipment have longer driver reaction times. On the other hand, when all 70 drivers who took part in the final driving simulator tests are considered, the average driver reaction time is 1.143 seconds, and the standard deviation (σSRS) values of the driver's reaction times are 0.498. Additionally, there was a linear rise in vehicle speed, braking duration, and braking distance. In this regard, it has been determined that the developed final driving simulator gives accurate results with the vehicle speed.
