Copolymerization of carbazole with N-substituted pyrrole and N-substituted carbazoles on 304 stainless steel and investigation of anticorrosive properties

Abstract (EN)

In this study, copolymerization of carbazole (Cz) monomer with pyrrole (Py), Nmethyl pyrrole (NMPy), N-vinyl carbazole (NVCz) and N-methyl carbazole (NMCz) monomers at co-monomer ratios (1:1) in anhydrous acetonitrile medium containing tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAHFP) and perchloric acid was carried out by cyclic voltammetry method and poly(carbazole-co-pyrrole) [P(Kz-co-Py)], poly(carbazole-co-N-methyl pyrrole) [P(Kz-co-NMPy)], poly(carbazole-co-N-vinyl carbazole) [P(Kz-co-NVCz)] and poly(carbazole-co-N-methyl carbazole) [P(Kz-co- NMCz)] copolymers were synthesized on 304 stainless steel (304-SS) electrodes. The synthesized copolymers were characterized spectroscopically and microscopically by ATRFTIR and SEM. Anticorrosive properties of the copolymer coatings were investigated in 0.1 M HCl medium by open circuit potential-time (Eocp-time) curves, potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. When the corrosion performances of the copolymer coated stainless steel electrodes were grouped and compared, it was determined that the protection efficiencies followed the order of P(Kz-co- NMPy) > P(Kz-co-Py); P(Kz-co-NVCz) ˃ P(Kz-co-NMCz); P(Kz-co-NVCz)@ZrO2 > P(Kz-co-NMCz)@ZrO2 according to both of the PP and EIS methods.
