Abstract (EN)

In this study, the samples obtained from heat treated at different temperatures beech (Fagus orientalis L.) wood were reinforced with carbon and glass fiber and the changes in the physical and mechanical properties were investigated. For this purpose, the beech wood was heat treated at 150, 175 and 200 °C for 3 hours, then the veneers were cut at appropriate dimensions and by adding carbon and glass fiber between veneers, 4 layers of laminated materials were produced using phenol formaldehyde adhesive. In control group, only fagus samples was laminated. The air-driel density value, bending strength, modulus of elasticity in bending strength, compressive strength paralell to the grain, bonding strength and volumetric swelling rate of the samples were determined. As a results, the mechanical properties decreased with the heat treatment temperature. The highest air-dried density value in unheat-treated and reinforced samples with glass fiber (0.742 g/cm3), the highest bending strength in heat-treated at 150 °C and reinforced samples with carbon fiber (123.95 N/mm2), the highest modulus of elasticity in bending strength in unheat-treated and reinforced samples with carbon fiber (13299 N/mm2), the highest compressive strength paralell to the grain in unreinforced and unheat-treated samples (69.75 N/mm2), the highest bonding strength in unreinforced and unheat-treated samples (10.57 N/mm2) were determined. In the volumetric swelling tests, the highest value were determined in unreinforced and unheat-treated samples (15.96 %), the lowest value in heat-treated at 200 °C and reinforced samples with carbon fiber (10.93 %). According to these results, it is preferable to use carbon and glass fiber as the reinforcing material in the heat-treated wood material.
