Abstract (EN)
Introduction: Influence of brain, which is the most susceptible organ of hypoxia in patients with carbonmonoxide (CO) poisoning, is a determining factor in the severity of the clinical condition and mortality. Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the levels of S100B, Neuron Specific Enolase,, Tau protein and Matrix Metalloproteinase-9, which may be indicative of brain damage in CO poisoning, during admission and treatment processes. Material and Method: This study was conducted prospectively on 34 patients who were admitted to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Emergency Medicine Department between November 2015 and March 2016 due to CO poisoning. Patients were divided into two sub-groups scored as 13 and under (without consciousness) and over 13 (with consciousness)based on Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Venous blood was taken from the antecubital area at 0 and 3rd hours for analysis from all patients. Venous blood was taken from the antecubital region from 16 healthy volunteers as a control group. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the SPSS 18.0 program (SPSS for Windows, 18.0 SPSS Inc, USA). Findings: 28 of the patients were in the conscious group (130.05). NSE and TAU protein levels were found to be statistically significantly high (p<0,05) in the patientgroup compared to the control group while not statistically significant in conscious (13Keyword: Matriks metalloproteinaz 9 = Matrix metalloproteinase 9 ; Matriks metalloproteinazlar = Matrix metalloproteinases ; Nöron spesifik enolaz = Neuron specific enolase ; S100 proteinleri = S100 Proteins ; Tau proteinleri = Tau proteins
