The appearance of sibling bullying among primary school students

In this study, the apperances of sibling bullying behaviors among primary school students were examined.In line with this purpose, data were collected from 356 studentsstudying at the primary schools of the Ministry of National Education in the 2020-2021 academic year.In this study, Renewed Sibling Bullying Scale, Causes of Sibling Bullying Behavior Questionnaire, Places and Times of Bullying Behavior Questionnaire, Perpetration and Victimization Direction of Bullying Behavior Questionnaire, and the personal information formwere used for data collection. In this study, survey model was used, and descriptive analysis techniques were utilized. The results of the research showed that elder brothers, compared to sisters, were more engaged in bullying as perpetrators and victims. Among the most common sibling bullying behaviors were nick-naming his-her sibling, beating his-her sibling, scaring his-her sibling and causing difficulties to his-her sibling. The sibling bullying victimization experiences involved beatings and teasing by their siblings.According to the results of the research, primary school students' sibling bullying and exposure reasons were joking, relieving boredom, taking revenge on their sibling and scaring their sibling. Results showed that the places and times of sibling bullying were while playing games, studying together, watching television together, and playing a game on a computer, tablet or mobile phone.Considering the findings of the literature and the findings of this study, an operational definition of sibling bullying was suggested. As a result, sibling bullying is an important issue that needs to be prevented.Therefore, sibling bullying is a problem that should be taken seriously, not only by families, but also by researchers, school counselors and classroom teachers.
