The adaptation of the Family Influence Scale for high school students: Validity and reliability studies

The purpose of this research was to adapt the FIS for high school students in Turkey. In the research group, there was 506 (292 girls and 214 boys) high school students in Ankara at 2011-2012 spring term. In this research, first, the FIS, which has 22 item, 4 factor and 5 response, translated to Turkish. To determine the structure validity of Turkish FIS, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was used on the data. Results indicated that Turkish FIS has 4 factor, like the FIS and explore 58.38 percent of total variance. To determine the validiy of Turkish FIS, relationship was examined between Turkish FIS scores and Social Admiration Scale scores. Results indicated that, there was not a significant relationship. To determine reliability of Turkish FIS, interior consistency and stability coefficients were calculated for the whole scale and subscales. Cronbach Alpha coefficient for whole scale was found .77, for Information Support .89, for Financial Support .78, for Family Expectations .72, for values and beliefs .83. The stability coefficient for whole scale which calculated with test re-test was significant (r = .83). These results indicated that the Turkish FIS was valid and reliable.
