Perception of charismatic coach effcets of coach-player relationship, athlete satisfaction, team cohesion and team commitment on football players

This research was carried out to determine the effect of the charismatic coach behavior on the sportsmen. The study aims to test a hypothesis model for the effects of the charismatic leader concept on the relations of the coach and the players, the satisfaction of the players, the cohesion and the commitment in the team and understand the effect and the differences it caused on the related variables.The study was carried out on 343 players playing in the Turkish super league and the lower leagues such as Bank-Asya and 2-B . The data were collected by the use of a charismatic leader perception, LMX 7, players satisfaction, team cohesion and commitment scales. These scales were developed by the use of descriptive and confirmatory factor analysis. The effects of a charismatic coach on the relation between the coach and the players, players? satisfaction and team cohesion and commitment were investigated by the path analyses.The results of the path analysis showed that there were differences in the perception of players of a charismatic leader and the resulting effects. The effect of the charismatic leadership was direct and extensive. It was found that the players did not want to be very close to the coach and preferred a relation based upon respect and love. The opinions of the players did not change according to the league they played.The study showed that the perception of the charismatic increased the sportsmen satisfaction, improved the coach and players? relation and developed the team cohesion and commitment.
