Abstract (EN)

Objectives: Our aim in this study; determining the headache rate observed after stenting in patients undergoing carotid stenting and determining whether this headache is related to brain collateral circulation Materials and Methods: This study included patients who underwent to the Neurology Service between January 2017 and July 2019, who underwent carotid stenting in the neuroangiography unit, followed by close follow-up during service follow-up, and who came to the neurology outpatient control at the 1st week and 1st month. A total of 84 patients were identified and the brain collateral circulation was examined in patients with headache development rate and headache development. Findings: İn 23 (27.3%) of 84 patients who participated in the study, headache developed after carotid stenting. When the demographic data of the patients with and without headache after carotid stenting were compared, only headache was more common after stenting in patients with primary headache (p: 0.0001). Especially in those with a history of migraine, headaches developed after more procedures. After carotid stenting; When patients with and without headache were compared in terms of collateral existence, there was no statistically significant difference (p: 1.0) Conclusion: The rate of headache developing after carotid stenting was found to be 27.3%. Although headache is observed more frequently after carotid stenting, especially in patients with primary headache; those with migraine-type headache were more in this group. Our data; brain collateral circulation is in favor of no effect on the development of post-stent headache. However, it should be taken into consideration by clinicians that the development of headache more frequently after carotid stenting, especially in patients with primary headache, especially migraine.
