Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME : HEALING PERIOD We prospectively reviewed the healing period of 25 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome who treated surgically in Çukurova University Medical Faculty, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Depart ment between May 1990- June 1993. We compared both pre and pos toperative clinical examinations and electrodiagnostic studies. 23(92%) patients were female and 2(8%) were male. The mean age was 48.5 years. We performed carpal tunnel release for 29 hands of 25 patients. Patients were followed up mean 13.7 months (3 to 41 months). In conclusion; the subjective signs of the carpal tunnel syndrome improved in a short time, but the improvement of the electrophysiological changes took more time after the carpal tun nel release. The complete electrophysiological improvement is continued after 6th month, rather than the first few months. And also the electrophysiological improvement is earlier for the patients who have a short period of complaint. 48
