Comparative performance analysis of Mendelssohn's Op.64 E Minor Violin Concerto, Cadenza

In this study, the definition of performance analysis is given, the importance and necessity of this developing discipline is explained, the historical development of performance is discussed, and the position of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor among other Romantic concertos, as well as its characteristic features, are described. The interpretation differences and how much the performers adhere to the dynamics set by the composer are examined through a performance analysis by comparing three performances. • Maxim Vengerov-Kurt Masur-Gewandhausorchester Leipzig-1993 • Hilary Hahn-Hugh Wolff-Oslo Filharmonien-1998 • Augustin Hadelich-Miguel Harth-Bedoya-Norwegian Radio Orchestra-2015 The excerpts used in the study were taken from the Carl Flesch edition, and the composer's manuscript was also taken into account due to possible changes. The research was not conducted to prove which interpretation is more correct or incorrect, but rather to explain the differences in interpretations on a theoretical basis.
