Development of web-based software library for cartographic-geodetic calculations

Abstract (EN)

It's possible to talk about general trends under the title of Web-based programming. These trends indicate a shift away from desktop applications and toward Web-based applications. In this study, a software library called Kartolib was developed to perform basic professional calculations in the Web environment. The library was created to work with online maps and is compatible with Leaflet, one of the open source mapping libraries. The library is developed with JavaScript. The library contains variables and functions for library operation and basic calculations. Basic calculations; direct and indirect fundamental calculation solutions on the sphere and ellipsoid surfaces, surface area calculation on the sphere and ellipsoid, cartesian-geographic/geographic-cartesian transformation, Geographical-Gauss Krüger/Gauss Krüger-Geographic coordinate transformation. The library is expected to provide an important infrastructure for those who will program on Web-based cartography-geodesy. As a result, the library's functions and objects are discussed with usage examples. In this way, the library has evolved into a mini API. The research was completed by testing the designed sample applications on the Web.
