Abstract (EN)
In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of balneotherapy when combined with other physical therapy modalities on early depression, anxiety, health-related quality of life, emotional status, pain scores and sleep patterns. In the study, we included 105 patients who administered inpatient physical therapy program due to common musculoskeletal disorders in clinical physical therapy. Inpatient physical therapy and exercise program was applied totally 10 sessions for related diagnosis. All patients were treated at the thermal water unit of our department. Each session was 20 minutes for 2 weeks. Patients were evaluated before and after treatment. Informed consent of the patients were taken and demographic data were recorded. Patients were asked to respond to the severity of pain and degree of treatment satisfaction using a five-point Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used to assess emotional status of patients. Health-related quality of life was evaluated by Nottingham Health Profile questionnaire. Changes in the sub-parameters were investigated after treatment. 69 of the patients participating in the study were female and 36 were male. At the end of the treatment, all parameters evaluated was improved statistically significant level. 46.7% patients stated that were very satisfied with the treatment and 3,8% of patients not at all satisfied with the treatment. According to the results of our study, applications of balneotherapy and physical therapy in patients with common musculoskeletal disorders, reduces quality of life and increases the risk of depression, anxiety and pain levels in the short term. There is need for more controlled studies to determine how long this effect continues and treatment satisfaction according to the diagnosis.
