Kastamonu traditional block printing and evaluation of wood mold print collection of Cemil Kizilkaya

Block Printing is an art of decoration made by hand drawing on fabric or by means of wooden molds with certain compositions and by using various paint types in different colors. Block Printing, one of the oldest traditional handicrafts in Anatolia, draws attention with its different styles, patterns and compositions in every region from the past to the present. The motifs in the hand-painted kerchiefs generally reflect the characteristics of the region. These motifs, which are the result of cultural background, is like a bridge from history to future. The most beautiful examples of wooden molds belonging to the Block Printing art from the past to the present are seen in Tokat and Kastamonu. In order for Kastamonu traditional print art to be transferred to future generations, we should know its past. In this study, it is aimed to contribute to Block Printing art and to introduce Block printing art. During the researches, the historical development of Kastamonu printing was examined. The molds belonging to the Block Printing craftsman Cemil Kızılkaya and the molds in Kastamonu Ethnography Museum were examined. In this study, it is aimed to document the wooden molds of Kastamonu printing and to examine the characteristics of motifs.
