In recent years, due to the fact that consumption habits have changed with the increasing population in the world and in our country, the amount and composition of solid waste has also changed. Population projections significantly affect the amount of solid waste production. In this study, population projections for the next years were calculated using the Provincial Bank method by using the population information of Kastamonu province. After that, the amount of solid waste production per person for 2018-2020 was found to be 0.96 kg/person.day, and this calculated value coincided with the amount of waste per person within the framework of the National Waste Management and Action Plan of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for 2023. Mathematical models have been used to calculate the amount of gas that will be generated in a solid waste landfill facility. Using solid waste data obtained from the Kastamonu Local Administrations Association, the amount of solid waste for the coming years was calculated using the EPA and Tabasaran/Rettenberg kinetic models and the amount of landfill gas and methane gas to be formed was estimated. The gas formation for CAA and AP-42 of the applied EPA kinetic model was found to be 153 and 90 m3 CH4/ton. When calculated according to the Tabasaran/Retenberger kinetic model, the volume of methane gas formed per unit ton of waste was found to be 102 m3 CH4/ton. The CH4, CO2, O2 and H2S values of the landfill gas taken from the Kastamonu Landfill Gas Power Generation Plant were measured at 46%, 36%, 2% and 3 ppm, respectively. Using these data, the energy value of 1 m3/hour storage gas was calculated as 3909 kcal = 4.54 kWh when unit conversions were made (860 kcal if 1 kWh).
