Abstract (EN)
Urban aesthetics has been the subject of many academic researches and various definitions related to urban aesthetics have been introduced. It is of great interest to people living in that city as well as academically. It is an undeniable fact that urban aesthetics is not just a form. Each city has its own culture and unique values. In order to emphasize the importance of this value, this study focused on the effects of the sign on urban aesthetics in terms of visual and cultural aspects. In this qualitative study, visual analysis methods were used to reveal possible hidden information of the visual content on the signs. While analyzing the collected data, it was discussed and evaluated under the name of visual literacy. The findings obtained at this stage were examined with their positive and negative aspects. In addition to visual reading, language use, human safety and material quality were also emphasized. In the light of these findings, application studies have been carried out on fourteen examples of those that are faulty in terms of design features of commercial signs. Ultimately, for the Historical Nasrullah Square, the researcher made suggestions for signs that are compatible with urban aesthetics as a suggestion.
