Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the phytochemical content of essential oil, obtained by water vapor distillation method from some medicinal and aromatic plants, and revealing the antimicrobial effect on pathogenic fungi and bacteria. In this study, antimicrobial effect of essential oils obtained by water vapor distillation method from each of the Salvia officinalis L. and Origanum onites L. taxa were tested on gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus durans, Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria innocua, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis), gram-negative (Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, Salmonella infantis, Salmonella kentucky, Salmonella typhimurium, Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens) pathogenic bacterial strains and one pathogenic fungus strain (Candida albicans) obtained with using the minimum inhibition concentration method. The phytochemical content of essential oils obtained from plants was determined by GC-MS analysis.
