The effects of population change on land use in Kastamonu

There is a close relationship between land use types and population density and migration. Migration is one of Turkey's most important problems today. In particular, forest enterprises are affected by the social, economic and ecological dimensions of migration; these enterprises are finding it difficult to find a workforce that will operate effectively in forestry activities with each passing day. Due to the migration from Kastamonu province, the population of the villages decreases and this causes various changes in land use. These changes are more evident in forest and agricultural areas. The aim of this study is to determine the most important reasons and reasons that cause the migration process from the study area, the problems and effects of the migration process, to shed light on some forest villages subject to migration and to reveal the changes in land use as a result. In the study; It has been determined that forest areas have increased significantly in the districts of Kastamonu province (Abana, Bozkurt, Cide, Çatalzeytin, Doğanyurt, İnebolu), while degraded forest areas, settlement and agricultural areas have decreased significantly. The results obtained show that due to the decrease in the population in the study areas and the migration from rural areas to the cities, it has been determined that people leave the areas where they farm and these areas turn into fertile forest areas with the disappearance of the social pressure on the degraded forest areas.
