A review on the use of social media of the local press of Kastamonu

The press, which is accepted as the fourth force, is an important tool in terms of informing the public and receiving news, both in the national and local sense. Communication is one of the basic human needs, such as housing, nutrition. The use of the press in the proper way means that the addressed audience is informed correctly. For this reason, all members of the press engaged in journalism must strictly adhere to the ethical rules of their profession. The national press is in communication with some new sources and in addition to functions such as meeting the need of receiving news, expressing the problems experienced and finding solutions as well. The source we mentioned is the local press. In the regions where the national press organizations cannot reach, local press has undertaken the task of transmitting all the national news both to the public and local regions. Local newspapers are like the memories of the city. The sophistication of local newspapers indicates the growth and wealth of the city's memory. Safer and more confident steps can be taken into the future thanks to the knowledge that this wealth offers. It should be utilized through the knowledge that we get from the past for every step taken into the future. Kastamonu press has a very important place about transmitting memory of the past to future. Furthermore, press of Kastamonu, which has an original history, deservedly preserves the self-confidence and information savings brought by the past. Thanks to this, the local press also protects the identity of the society in which it operates. The presence of local newspapers and news agencies in a region, also seriously meets the need of receiving news for the locals of the region. In addition, the people of a local region who want to make their voice heard all over the country can easily do that and express their problems to their own region and nationwide. The digital platform networks of newspapers are of great importance in cases where traditional media alone is insufficient today. Local newspapers where the loss of readers increases with digitalization have started using new communication technologies to continue their activities. The evolution of newspapers from print press to digital media and meeting with social media has created a number of problems. The main purpose of this study is to examine the social media adventure of local newspapers in Kastamonu province. For this purpose, Kastamonu, Nasrullah, Sozcu, Dogrusoz, Acıksoz and Gundem 37 newspapers, which continue to publish in the city center, were selected for this thesis study. The use of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will be evaluated in the local press of Kastamonu as a result of interviews conducted with employees and editorial directors of selected newspapers. This study will give direction to the future due to the fact that there has been no research so far on this subject in Kastamonu.
