The effects of patient education with auditory method on anxiety level before cataract surgery

It is a pre-test-post-test randomized controlled experimental study to determine the effect of patient education with voice recording method before cataract surgery on the level of anxiety. The population of the study will include the patients who were admitted a university hospital Eye Service between March- June 2023. The sample included 120 patients, 60 were in the experimental group and 60 in the control group, who would accept the study and meet the inclusion criteria. In this study, Patient Information Form and State-Trait Anxiety Scale were used to collect data. The data obtained in the research were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences Statistics for Windows 25.0 program. It is seen that there is a statistically significant difference between the pre-procedural state anxiety scores of the control group participants and their post-procedural state anxiety scores (p=0.000). It is seen that the state anxiety scores of the control group participants were higher after the procedure than before the procedure. It is seen that there is a statistically significant difference between the pre-procedural state anxiety scores and the post-procedural state anxiety scores of the experimental group participants (p=0.000). It is seen that the state anxiety scores of the experimental group participants were higher before the procedure than after the procedure. It is seen that the state anxiety scores of the control group are higher than those of the experimental group. As a result, it has been determined that the education with the sound recording method before the cataract surgery is effective in reducing the anxiety levels of the patients, and it can be suggested that the standard education methods used in patient education. Holistic nursing care should be developed and the use of multimedia supported auditory education materials. Keywords: Preoperative anxiety, State anxiety, Audio recording, Education
