Abstract (EN)
In this study, the affects of an additive which is called Diatomite is searched on the Marshall stability and Elastic Modulus values of asfaltic mixtures. For this purpose, Marshall and Indirect Tensile tests are applied on the approximately 400 specimens prepared in accordance with the Marshall test standarts both with and without addition of diatomit in specified asphalt and additive percentages. The results achieved from these tests are presented with respect to the specified asphalt and additive percentages. In the evaluation of the results, using diatomite as an additive in the asphaltic mixtures caused a considerable increase in both the Marshall stability and Indirect Tensile Strength values. The best results in the Marshall stability and Indirect Tensile Strength values are obtained in 7,5 % asphalt and 2 % additive percentages.In Turkey, rutting is the Frequently appearing problem on the flexible pavements. Remedial studies for this problem have been being performed in the related divisions of the Turkish Highway Department (K.G.M) One of these studies is on usage of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) mixtures. The open graded aggregates with high percentage of coarse aggregates and filler are proposed for such mixtures. In the case of a decision on applying such a mixture in Turkey's roads, it may be faced with a problem of shortage in producing high percentage of filler. In such a case, due to the rich resources of diatomite in Turkey, the using the diatomite as filler material in SMA mixture will be an important alternatif together with its stability increasing characteristic.
