The Effects of Concept Developing Method on Improvingthe Vocabulary of 5th Class StudentsABSTRACTThe aim of this research was to determine whether the concept developingmethod was effective to develope the vocabulary of 5th class elementary schoolstudents and to set if it is effective to the summarizing skills of the same group ofstudents.Research was set in Fatih and Millû Egemenlik Elementary Schools inBoğazlıyan / Yozgat among 5th class students of these two schools. 25 studentswere added to research from each school. Lecturer used four reading text during theresearch. Keywords were chosen from the texts and used to teach by conceptdeveloping method. Furthermore, students were asked to summarize the text at theend of the session. A scale was rectified by the researcher to assess the summaries.After assessing the summaries, an achievement test was set to. This test containsboth multiple choice and classical questions. Results of tests? were analised by SPSSstatistics computer program via t-test. According to research results :1. There are meaningful differences between concept developing method(CDM) and traditional teaching ways (TTW) on several points.2. CDM and TTW have differences at the using of declared words.3. These two methods have differences at summarizing.4. Two methods have meaningful differences at the average limits of wordteaching.5. The limits of vocabulary don?t undergo a change due to students? gender.
