Evaluation of clinical efficiencies of intravenous Ketamine, Propofol and Ketofol sedation on anxious children

Abstract (EN)
This study aims to evaluate the comparative clinical efficiencies of intravenous ketamine, propofol and ketofol sedation on children, scheduled for dental treatment.This study was performed on 75 patients, whom were randomly selected among 6-12 aged children having high anxiety level, ASA I group. Patients were randomly divided into 3 groups: Ketamine (Group K) (loading dose of 1 mg/kg, a continuous infusion dose 50-60 µg/kg/min), Propofol (Group P) (loading dose of 2 mg/kg, a continuous infusion dose 70-90 µg/kg/min) and Ketofol (Group KP) (loading dose of 0,6 mg/kg, a continuous infusion dose 40-60 µg/kg/min infüzyon). Vital signs, the depth of sedation and recovery times were recorded every 5 minutes. Change in anxiety was measured with CFSS-DS and MCDASf.The evaluation of the findings of this study revealed that treatments were achieved without any serious complications among all groups. It is found that patients received ketamine have significantly higher complication compared to other groups (p<0.05). Recovery times was significantly longer in Group K to the others (p<0.05). There was a correlation between the sedation scales and BIS values for group KP and P, however, it is stated that there were no correlation in group K. It is reported that there were statistically significant decrease in children?s anxiety by using group K and P (p<0.05). Conversely, there was no statistically significant difference in group K among anxiety scores before and after operation (p>0.05).It is determined that there was no serious complication by using ketamine, propofol and ketofol infusion during deep sedation. However, we think that compared to ketamine and propofol, ketofol is more comfortable and safer for the patient and the physician. Moreover ketofol is thought to be preferred for pediatric patients.
