Abstract (EN)

In the present study, hardness, microstructure, and wear characteristics of the modified surface of a low-carbon AISI 1010 steel by electric arc alloying with ferrochromium powders was investigated. Ferrochromium powder was mixed with a binder, sodium silicate solution, and applied onto the steel plates in various thicknesses. Then the plates were kept at 50 °C for 30 minutes to maintain surface adhesion. Finally the layer was melted by electric arc welding thus obtaining a modified surface. Appropriate samples were taken from the modified surfaces and tested for in- depth hardness, microstructural variations and wear resistance. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray analyses were employed for evaluation of the surface layer. The in-dept hardness was measured by Vickers Hardness Scale: The wear resistance was determined by pin-on-disc method.XI Results indicated that formation of Cr7C3 and Fe3C on the surface of alloyed AISI 1010 steel appreciably increased the hardness and resistance to corrosion, as compared to non-alloyed material. Key words : Surface coating, high-carbon ferrochromium (Cr,Fe)23CKeyword: Ferrokrom = Ferrochromium ; Sürtünme aşınması = Abrasive wear ; Yüzey kaplama = Surface coating
