Abstract (EN)
The most popular heat source model in finite element welding simulations is Goldak?s double ellipsoid model because the double ellipsoid shape gives a good approximation for many arc welds. Simply, the model uses the depth and shapes information of a weld and utilizes a Gaussian distribution of power density in double ellipsoid, it produces more flexible and realistic weld applications with simple pool shapes compared to the other models. However, when the shape of a weld pool is more complicated than the shape of a double ellipsoid especially as observed in submerged arc welds, it is not realistic to use the power density distribution function to accurately compute the transient temperature field. Therefore, it has to be found a new way to overcome this difficulty. Thus, in this research, a new approach has been proposed for using double ellipsoid model with some modifications to generate the correct shape of the weld pool. Then, the corresponding finite element temperatures distribution and residual stresses have been obtained on a plate in Abaqus 6.10 CAE software using user subroutines and compared the solutions with experimental results. The results show good approximation for submerged arc welding process.
