Abstract (EN)

This thesis is a study on the applicability of RDA: Resource Description and Access to the bibliographic descriptions of manuscripts and rare books. The study focuses on the description of the Islamic manuscripts and the rare books printed until the Alphabet Reform in Turkey. In general terms, the aim of the work is to put forward practical applications of how to solve the problems that have been discussed since the past on manuscript and rare books cataloging. The sample records are created in a library automation system that has the adequate technologicaly infrastructure required by the RDA and FRBR. The records of the works that available in the library actively function on the system. In this way, the results of the discussions can be easily seen. We hope that this study will be a useful guide for the librarians which they can easily test and see their own results. As a result of this study, it is expected that a versatile proposal of a national resource description system will be created for the libraries especially that have rare books and manuscripts. KEY WORDS: Manuscripts, Rare books, Cataloging, RDA, FRBR
