A research on history of education in Kayseri (1923-1980))

Education is an important medium in transferring accumulation of knowledge and culture of societies to next generation. Thus, researches on history of education is an important method to understand factors which create these background information and process and targets of these kinds of researches, furthermore, to provide the societies to realize mistakes or insufficiencies. In this study, it is studied that the importance and place of history of education in Kayseri in terms of Turkısh Education History. Following the proclamation of the Republic, a series of reforms were made in the field of education. National Schools in order to teach literacy to the public, and community centers to provide social and cultural development were founded. Primary schools were opened in all of the villages of Anatolia and Village Institutes were established to meet the teacher needs of these schools. Zincidere Village Teaching School, and Pazarören Village Institute was founded in Kayseri. Within the scope of this training mobilization, primary schools, secondary schools and high schools were opened in the whole of the province with the support of the public to the education and with the contribution of the benefactors, education was started to be provided according to the conditions of the time. In particular, the need for qualified personnel in the industry has been met by industry and schools' acting in cooperation with each other. In addition, establishing a university in Kayseri, which is an industrial and commercial city, pioneered the development of the city in terms of science and culture. This study is a qualitative work and document analyzing is used as a method. Archives of the Republic, the ministry of national education and the ministry of education in Kayseri, annuals, travel books, newspaper of Kayseri province during the period of republic, Journal of Erciyes that was published by public house, TBMM archive, books written in Turkish and any froing languages had been examined, furthermore, oral history was also used to compose this study Key Words: Kayseri, Pazarören Village Institute, Zincidere Village Teacher School, Public School, Public House, Benefactors.
