The scour mechanism caused by ship propeller around the pile groups of the harbour structure

%90 of the total transportation in the world is carried out over seas.The transportationperformed over the seas has been rapidly increasing due to high technological improvementsleading the ships to have huge power and high speeds. The approach of even the big ships tothe docs are now done by using the the ships?own engine power without the help of tugsbecause of the operation and economic reasons. However; this has been observed to causelocal scour on the base.The local scour occuring around the doc pipes have lead the doc structures experiencingstability problems. The research on this subject carry vital importance especially for theengineers planning structure projects. Probably it will take very long time to get advanced inthis subject due to not only the requirement of considerable efforts and time but also the factthat there exists few studies on the lack of the studies about parameters active on the scourprocess.This study investigates the scour mechanism caused by ship propeller around the stakes of theharbour structure.The stake group consistig of two stakes is focused in this study. The scourprofiles are investigated for the different distances between the two consecutively placedstakes. The scour depths, accumulation profiles and relation of them with the a/D parameterare also considered.
