The effect of the struggle to share hydrocarbon resources around the island of Cyprus on the Cyprus problem

The Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus, due to its strategic location, it has managed to attract the attention of states that want to have hegemonic power in every period of history. Today, it plays a key role in the Middle East oil and hydrocarbon wealth in its field. One of the biggest problems of the countries bordering the Eastern Mediterranean is the sea areas on which they cannot agree. In particular, Turkey's continental shelf is violated by the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) areas declared by the Greek and Southern Cyprus administration. In response to the theses of Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Cyprus, which try to push Turkey out of the game in the Eastern Mediterranean hydrocarbon issue, Turkey has continue to defend its rights arising from international law. In addition, Turkey has making all kinds of initiatives in the Eastern Mediterranean in order to protect the interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The demands and policies of England on hydrocarbon reserves due to its sovereign bases on the island are also important in terms of determining the direction of the problem. The aim of this thesis, within the framework of realist theory, is to explain the reflections of the conflicts of interest that will be experienced in the sharing of hydrocar-bon resources around the island of Cyprus to the ongoing disagreements and policies implemented between the Greeks and Turks in the island of Cyprus.
