Veterans from Diyarbakır who participated in the Cyprus Peace Operation

The Island of Cyprus, located in the east of the Mediterranean, has changed hands many times in history. After coming under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the island of Cyprus, which remained under the Ottoman Empire until 1878, had to be left to England as a base against Russia. Especially with the opening of the Suez Canal, its location close to the Indian Ocean and from there to the Pacific Ocean and Middle Eastern oil has attracted great attention, especially from the UK, USA and EU countries. The island of Cyprus, which turned into a series of problems after this date, was the scene of ENOSIS activities of the Greeks while under British rule. The organizations that started on the island and the activities against the Turks turned into a hot war after a certain period of time. With the Peace Operation carried out on the island of Cyprus in 1974, Türkiye began to protect the rights of its compatriots on the island. After the First and Second Peace Operations, the Turks took control of 30% of the island. The reactions of the Turkish Armed Forces and the Anatolian people were effective in the success of the operation. Like many provinces in Anatolia, the people of Diyarbakır gave great reactions. During the operation, many privates who performed their military service and many civilians in Diyarbakır wanted to participate in the operation voluntarily. The experiences and memories of the people of Diyarbakır, who participated in the Cyprus Peace Operation and were crowned veterans by volunteering while they were in the military, were conveyed.
