The Cyprus issue (1960-1974) and Cyprus veterans of Gaziantep

History is the past and the future of a nation. The island of Cyprus, located in a strategic position in Eastern Mediterranean, has attracted the attention of many civilizations throughout history. Wars, attacks and occupations have been going on throughout the history of Cyprus. Amongst those who attacked we can mention the Phoenicians, the Assyrians, the Egyptians, the Persians, Alexander the Great, the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. Geographically, the island of Cyprus, which is a part of the Anatolian land, got under Ottoman rule began in 1571 and since then its culture and artwork has become an integral part of the Turkish geography. In 1878 the island was hired to Great Britain led to disorders between the two communities, and although these disorders were attempted to be solved through the State of Cyprus established in 1960, this was not successful. The involvement of Greece and Turkey as guarantor states has taken the issue to the international platform and the procedure has resulted in dividing the island into two through the Cyprus peace operation of July 20th, 1974. Established between the years 1974-1983, the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus was established as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1983 and has obtained its present status. The Cyprus peace operation of 1974 was attempted to be explained with the stance of Cyprus veterans of Gaziantep.
