Abstract (EN)

In this study, the relationships of otolith biometry with total length and weight of Capoeta trutta( Heckel, 1943) (48 female and 58 male) caught from Keban Dam Lake (Elazığ) were examined between November 2011 and December 2012. The sagittal otoliths were used in this study. No statistical differences between the sizes (length, width, thickness and weight) of right and left otoliths were found (P>0.05). So, only right sagittal otoliths were used for the determination of otoliths biometry. It was found that C. trutta population ranged between 2 and 7 in age groups. Mean otolith length values for male, female and all individuals were 3.06, 3.08 and 3.07 mm respectively. Mean otolith width values for male, female and all individuals were 2.24, 2.31 and 2.27 mm respectively. Mean otolith weight values for male, female and all individuals were 6.94, 7.53 and 7.20 mg respectively. Mean otolith thickness values for male, female and all individuals were 1.12, 1.4 and 1.13 mm respectively. According to correlation analyses results, moderate positive relationship in male, female and all individuals were found between otolith length-total length (r=0.33, r=0.46 and r=0.38), otolith width-total length (r=0.45, r=0.54 and r=0.49), otolith weight-total length (r=0.51, r=0.72 and r=0.65), otolith thickness-total length (r=0.48, r=0.55 and r=0.50), otolith length-fish weight (r=0.38, r=0.50 and r=0.44),otolith width-fish weight (r=0.45, r=0.44 and r=0.42), otolith weight-fish weight (r=0.54, r=0.68 and r=0.62) and otolith thickness-fish weight (r=0.48, r=0.52 and r=0.47) respectively. On the other hand, very strong positive relationships were determined between otolith length-age group (r=0.93), otolith width-age group (r=0.71), otolith weight-age group (r=0.88) and otolith thickness-age group (r=0.89), in population. Key words:Capoeta trutta, otolith, fish length and fish weight.
