Compared age determination on bone structures of mystus Halepensis (Valanciennes, 1839)in habiting Keban Dam Lake

ABSTRACTPhd ThesisCOMPARED AGE DETERMINATION ON BONY STRUCTURES OFMYSTUS HALEPENSIS (VALANCIENNES, 1839)IN HABITING KEBAN DAM LAKESongül YÜCEGraduate Schol of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartment of Aquatic Basic Sciences2006, Page 38In this study, 350 individuals belong to Mystus halepensis (Valanciennes, 1839)population from Keban Dam Lake have been caught between January 2002 and January 2004.Bony structures of fish samples have been removed, cleaned and labelled, then they wereexamined under binocular microscope. Compared age determination have been done on 31different bony structures and the result have been given as N % in tables and figures.On compared bony structures the least precision (13.79 %) have been determinedbetween parasfenoid-vertebra and the most precision (88.72 %) have been determinedbetween right pectoral fin ray-left pectoral fin ray. The biggest age differences was found as 5on compared bony structures. The best annuli have been observed on right otoliths. This wasfollowed by left otoliths, vertebra, right operculum, left operculum, right cleitrum, left cleitrum,hipural placa and modified neural thorn respectively.Key Words : Keban Dam Lake, Mystus halepensis , Compared age determination.
