Abstract (EN)

In the use of a water source for a purpose, it is also important whether its quality is suitable for the purpose beside the potential. Water sources are under the increasing danger of pollution in Turkey like the other developing countries. The common reasons for the deterioration in water quality are excessive use of the natural sources, uncontrolled and unplanned urbanization, industrial, municipal and agricultural activities. After pollution, wastewater management is a more difficult and expensive process. The Keban Dam, which is one of the biggest dams both in Turkey and the World, is located in The Upper Euphrates Basin in the East Anatolia Region. The River Euphrates is the biggest hydro energy source for Turkey. To determine the local pollutants and take the necessary precautions, physical, chemical and biological factors should be investigated periodically in aquatic environment. In this study, it is aimed to determine the regular and irregular municipal and industrial infrastructures, the locations of landfills, their effects on pollution and hotpoints and thus contributing basin management and to form an academic base for the basin. This study covers the countryside and city centers of Elazig, Tunceli, Erzincan, Bingöl and Mus located in the upper Ephratus Basin. Key Words: Basin, Water Quality, Euphrates, Keban Dam Lake
